Just outside of the tiny village of Beckford, close to Tewkesbury, is one of the Cotswolds’ best kept secrets. Beckford Silk Mill is the centre of the luxury silk industry in the UK, and includes a factory, shop and café.

The mill produces very high quality silk scarves, ties, clothes and accessories, some of them designed by huge names which soon become collectable and highly coveted items. If you have an interest in fashion and luxury items, you have to visit and see some of the special edition scarves and other silk items.

Founded in 1975 by James and Martha Gardner, the couple were inspired by the Arts & Craft movement and their passion for colour to start a silk printing business, specialising in scarves.

Beckford Silk Mill makes scarves for some of biggest museums in Britain, including the V&A, The National Gallery, The British Museum, The Lowry and Cotswold Collections. The mill also makes prints for exclusive brands.

Attached to the mill is the silk store, where some of the best silk and velvet in the country can be purchased at hugely discounted prices. The silk is available in a range of amazing colours, waves and weights. There’s also an on-site café to relax after you have your spending spree.

Everything is printed and dyed on site using a range of techniques, with many products printed by hand. Tours are available at request for enthusiasts.
